The new species has the scientific name Drepanosticta emtrai Dow, Kompier & Phan, 2018, the name of the species is given in Vietnamese, "younger brother" to refer to the "late birth" of this species compared with a species very close to it is Drepanosticta hongkongensis Wilson, 1997. D. emtrai is similar to other species in the family Platystictidae.
